Rex’s Story

Hi my name is Rex I am a healthy, young 4 year old male DOGO/Pit Bull mix. I have been rescued and I am safe now but let me tell you how I got to where I am with the help of Barks of Love animal rescue.I have seen a lot of stuff in my life. But don’t be sad for me. I’m tough and I always look on the bright side. Things weren’t always so good for me. I was born in a really ugly place. I was there with a bunch of other dogs. They were really mean to me, both dogs and the humans. Those humans took those shiny silver things and cut off my ears. They said it would make me look fierce. But I didn’t cry when they did that to me. No sir, not me. They were teaching me to take the pain. And I did too. Even when it hurt really bad. One day, those mean humans left the gate open. I ran, I ran like I had never run before.
I enjoyed my freedom but not for long. I had to look for my own food and a warm place to sleep. I tried to stay out of everyone’s way. I didn’t want any mean humans to find me. I was found by the side of the road in Sylmar, CA. My feet were blistered and swollen from walking so long. A really nice man picked me up and talked to me sweetly. He had a kind face so I trusted him. He gave me food boy was I hungry. He took me to his house, I enjoyed being there. He was sad he couldn’t keep me so he took me to the shelter. They fed me there but it wasn’t that much better than the streets. All that changed when the man came back and brought a nice lady from Barks of love rescue.
She took me into her home where I lived for 9 months while trying to find my new forever home. The nice lady leash trained me, she took me on walks & hikes. I had other dogs to play with in the family and she took me to the doggie park so I could learn some socialization skills. She loved me a lot and told me every day how smart and handsome I am. I had been with Barks of Love rescue for 9 months, they said I was the longest resident of their rescue. After wondering so many long months if I would find a forever home the nice lady from barks of love dropped me off to my new mom and dad, whom she stayed in contact with for months as they waited to find a permanent living situation where I could be with them forever. I am so greatful to the volunteers of the Barks of love animal rescue. I don’t know where I would be now if it weren’t for the love of the nice lady and everyone else I have met while I was in Barks of Loves care. I am living in a safe place where I am loved and now I call Home.

What some love and good home life can do – his foster mom was amazing and took such good care of Rex – he will always be one of the special BOL dogs to have been rescued.

I am so glad that Rex was able to break free from an abusive situation, and has now found a loving “fur-ever” home.
Every being deserves a happy home and a chance to thrive! Rescue pets have brought me the most happiness. It feels great to know you offered a home or even saved a life when adopting a rescue.
Rex is such a special boy and the love he must have felt from the BOL team made his life that much better. Barks of love goes the extra mile for their rescue dogs and the volunteers and fosters (especially in Rex’s case) are amazing. Wishing Barks of love lots of success now and in future rescues.
When you’re in a rescue, it’s easy to feel like you are not doing enough, that you’re not making that much of a difference. Then I remember dogs like Rex, who would have probably died on the streets if it were not for our rescue and our ability to take care of dogs in distress, both emotionally and financially. Rex is such a perfect example that an animal can come out of a violent situation and be turned around and go on to live a healthy, happy life. A life that brings joy to every person who has the pleasure of getting to know him. I remember when his foster mom Christina told me that when she first met Rex, he was afraid to let anyone touch his ears. Now, thanks to the love and care of his foster family, he is one of the most snuggable dogs you could meet. And now he is going to bring even more joy to his new forever family. So really, we didn’t just help one dog, we gave a whole family the gift of a dog’s love. I guess for some of us, like Rex, fairy tails really do come true.
Rex is now in his forever home thanks to so many people, especially Barks of Love Rescue, his original saver Bruce, and his devoted foster mom Christina
WOW, what an amazing story. I admire everyone in the rescue community, and especially want to thank the amazing foster homes who give so much love to animals, only to set them free.
What a wonderful story. Rex is a lucky sweet boy. Thank goodness for Barks of Love! You guys rock!!!
It is encouraging that such a great dog found his forever home. I hope there are many more like Rex that will have such luck. The more attention brought to people about adopting instead of buying…more dogs can be saved. Yay Rex!!!! Not to underestimate the fosters who are also life savers! =D
What a lucky boy! I was so excited to photograph Rex for his adoption page….and give him his first taste of peanut butter. (what amazing photos those are!)
I am so happy he found a great group of rescuers to stand by his side until he found his forever home! Way to go Barks of Love! Congrats to Rex!

Rex is so special. I am so happy that he found a family that will love him unconditionally.

I always insist on getting a rescue dog. That’s what we did growing up and what I continue to do today. I have always had the best experiences with rescued dogs. It may be just me, but I swear that they are even more loving for the experiences they’ve been through and for not having to be there anymore. It just takes a little understanding, patience and most of all, LOVE. Barks of Love make a huge contribution in that direction. They are so committed, loving and even non-profit! I had to join them as a recent volunteer!
Wonderful happy ending for Rex. Great job to his foster family for making such a long committment to him and then doing the honorable thing and sending him on to a forever home so they can continue fostering and helping many other dogs who need it. I’m sure it wasn’t an easy thing to do but kudos to them for their committment in helping more dogs. Be happy Rex!
Another bitter story with a happy ending!! Rex is so beautiful. Thank you Barks of Love.
We are lucky to have in this world people who care about those who just want a loving home.
Shelter dogs are the best. They know the meaning of a good home
Barks of Love sounds like a wonderful place to stay while they look for a forever home for handsome dogs. The people who take such good care of these animals are special people. Rex was fortunate of have found such people.
Poor baby! I’m so glad Barks of Love was able to help him. He is such a smart boy to run away.
barks of love has done a great job. its nice to read about dogs with a happy ending, there are so many that don’t get that chance.
good dog, good story. Barks of love has done a good job.
rex owes his second chance to the group and a big thank you to his foster.
This is one of the numerous wonderful stories I hear from a Barks of Love effort. I am so grateful there are people that feel for animals as much as I do and realize that they need tons of love and to be respected. Thank you Barks of Love for all you have done.
I was the fortunate person that found this wonderful animal, almost dead along the side of the road, in Sylmar nearly a year ago. I knew that Rex was special from the moment he entered my life. I am so grateful for people like Merrill and Wendy and Mercedes and all the other people that answered my pleas for help so Rex could be saved. I am particularly grateful to have been put in contact with Christina from Barks of Love, who fostered Rex for 9 months constantly looking for a final home for him. Without you, Rex’s happy story could not be told. There are so many amazing people that were willing to help, and you saved this incredible dog. Barks of Love (Christina)….Thank You!!!!
A Wonderful turn around story! Thanks to Barks of Love for making these stories a reality and making a difference in the lives of these deserving animals.
Yeah Rex!!! A true story of inspiration. With all the bad things that happened, he has more good times ahead!!! He was rescued by such a great organization & I’m sure he & his now forever owners will be thankful.

What an interesting idea. I had never thought about it that way before. Thanks for sharing.
Rex is proof that its not how a dog looks but how they are treated that mattes most.
Rex you are such a special boy…so happy you got the chance at life you deserve!
That was an amazing story! My friends and I ran a fundraiser in March, and Barks of Love came. I LOVE pitbulls, and Barks of Love is an amazing rescue! =)

kuddos to barks of love for the rescue of rex and all the others, glad rex found his home and his happy forever. Also special thanks to barks of love, most importantly danielle who brought me my foster baby snuggles who is now my adopted baby. It only took a week for me to fall in love with his counter surfing butt. luv ya guys for all you do.
I am so happy to hear this story. That special foster mom who took care of Rex for so many months was my niece Christina. I know how much Rex meant to her so I am thrilled to hear he found a special family and permanent home. Barks of Love is a very special group of people who call these animals family members not just pets.
YAY Rex the most handsomest dog in the world!! and yay BOL, another GREAT rescue
Rex was in our home as my daughter, Christina and our family fostered him. I was so concerned when he first came to stay with us. I did not see that such a tortured soul could recover, but you could see the joy in his eyes. His his story is one of what great love and patience can do for all. I am sooo proud of my daughter Christina and all the Barks Of Love Gang. They are changing lives.
Thanks to Barks of Love for another great rescue. Thanks for all you do for these precious dogs.
It always warms my heart to know there are people out there that care for dogs like Rex that have so much love to give.
