Angel’s Story
Posted by admin on 13 Apr 2010 at 12:02 pm | Tagged as: Previous Inspiring Stories
Eight-year-old Olivia Miller asked for a Chihuahua for Christmas, but what she received was far more precious than just any pet. That’s because Olivia and her new little dog both have diabetes and today they comfort and encourage each other through the rigors of dealing with the disease. Olivia’s family adopted the special-needs pet at TAILS Humane Society in DeKalb, Illinois, and every day the 10-pound dog, now named Noel, supports the little girl through the hard times.
“I don’t really know anyone else who has diabetes, so we talk about it together,” said Olivia of her beloved Chihuahua.Olivia cradles Noel like a baby. “I tell Noel that it’s okay to have diabetes. She likes to give me little kisses.”
We use the same size shots,” Olivia continued. “She’s not scared when she gets shots. I show her the shot first so she knows what it is and then I lift up some skin around her collar and give her the shot. If she squeaks, I just hug her, but most of the time she doesn’t even know it’s happening.”
Olivia, daughter of Lisa and Dean Miller of DeKalb, was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes when she was six years old. Around that time, Olivia began asking her parents for a Chihuahua. Shortly before Christmas that year, the Millers received TAILS Humane Society’s fall newsletter and read the story of Angel, a neglected Chihuahua who had been left to die.
One summer day, a realtor showing a prospective buyer a country home was shocked to find a little dog apparently abandoned on the property. It was barely alive. The realtor called the Humane Investigation Department at TAILS and a licensed humane investigator rushed to the scene. The Chihuahua was indeed close to death and couldn’t even raise her head to take the piece of bread offered to her. The humane investigator then called in officers from DeKalb County Animal Control and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department.
The dog was rushed to Prairie View Animal Hospital where she required round-the-clock care for four weeks. It did not take the veterinarian long to diagnose the Chihuahua’s diabetes. Named Angel by the Prairie View staff, she entered foster care when she left the hospital. A trained, licensed volunteer in TAILS’ network of foster families took over her rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, Angel’s original owner was charged with animal cruelty for failure to provide necessary veterinary care to a companion animal. She was found guilty, sentenced to 18 months probation, and ordered to relinquish the dog and pay restitution for Angel’s treatment over the course of two months, a bill of $1600.

By Halloween, Angel’s blood sugar levels had stabilized with twice-daily insulin injections. She gained weight and quickly recovered her natural playfulness and energy. When she was at last healthy and ready for adoption, everyone at TAILS knew that this adoption would not be a simple matter. A special family would be needed to make the commitment to this pet’s ongoing needs. TAILS decided to feature the story in its fall newsletter in hopes that someone would be touched by the resilience and delightful spirit of this little dog that had been through so much.
When Lisa Miller read the story her first thought was, “I wouldn’t give up on my daughter, so I wouldn’t want someone to give up on her [Angel].”
Feeling that Angel was “meant to be ours,” the Millers read Angel’s story together as a family and then began the adoption process. They took the family’s rat terrier, Ruby, to meet Angel and see if the dogs were compatible. The introduction was a great success and the adoption was completed that day. “When I first saw her,” Olivia said, “I just thought she was the cutest little thing.”
Olivia’s Christmas Angel became Noel and today the Chihuahua lives the good life as a valued member of the Miller family, which also includes Olivia’s brother Noah, age 12, and two cats. The whole Miller menagerie is ruled by Noel, who according to Lisa “is a true Chihuahua with a big bark for such a little dog.”
“We have a fenced-in backyard,” Lisa explained, “and Noel loves to soak in the sun. She and Ruby chase squirrels and bark. Every day they run to greet the postman who gives them each a treat.
Every time someone opens a kitchen cupboard, Noel comes running, hoping for a treat. Her favorite snack is apple. Lisa said that Noel also likes to steal the cats’ treats, but everyone in the family keeps an eye on Noel’s diet, an important part of her diabetes treatment plan.

Olivia keeps a diagnostician’s eye on Noel. “I can tell if Noel’s blood sugar is high,” she said, “because she drinks a lot of water and goes to the bathroom a lot. When it’s low, she falls over and is tired.”
And Olivia isn’t the only doctor in the house. Her brother Noah has taken such an interest in his sister’s and Noel’s common disease that he wants to become a veterinarian when he grows up.
“Both Noah and Olivia prepare shots for Noel,” said Lisa. “Noel patiently sits and waits for them.” Olivia adds, “And she’s not scared.”
To Olivia, Noel is more than just a therapy dog. “She’s my cute little baby. I like to dress her up like Little Red Riding Hood and for Halloween we were both princesses.”
“Noel is everything Olivia wished for,” said Lisa. “She’s a big part of our family for being such a little dog. We all love her.”
Noel, the Chihuahua that nearly didn’t live, thrives with the Millers and the Millers are in turn enriched by Noel, proof that one can never predict the impact a single small life may have on another.

I heard about this story right from the start and have always found it to be very inspiring. It goes to show that you never really know how things will turn out and how lives will be changed until you take a chance rescuing an animal.
Many thanks to the wonderful people at TAILS Humane Society who rescued and nursed Angel so she could have a wonderful life with the Millers. Olivia and her Noel (Angel) are a wonderful inspiration to people.
This is a truly inspiring story. I remember well reading about Angel’s plight and worrying about her and being angry that anyone could do such a thing. How wonderful that Angel/Noel’s story has such a great ending. And knowing that Angel/Noel has an ever so much better life — probably than even her original owner — is incredibly uplifting!

Noel is truly an angel – as are the people who rescued and cared for her. It is wonderful that she has found the perfect home.
I remember this dog very well and I remember meeting the little girl. It’s like it was a match made in heaven. Heart warming story.
I am so happy that she was adopted into a great home with someone who knows what this wonderful dog is going through
I love to see when the animals at TAILS go to a great home
I was fortunate to write this story. What a wonderful group of people at TAILS helped Angel. The Millers are a wonderful family.
What a wonderful story! Some things are “just meant to be”. Thanks to TAILS and families like the Millers, Noel can now live the “life of a queen”. She finally found the girl she was destined to be with, and now she can help her deal with her struggles. Everything happens for a reason.
It is the people at TAILS who are the real angels; this story is just one of thousands. We are truly blessed to have been involved with TAILS while we lived there, and we visit every chance we get when we’re back that way. The work they do is amazing. Thank you so much!
Saundra Fitzpatrick and family
It looks like Olivia isn’t the only one who received a beautiful Christmas gift, Noel was lucky to get a loving family also!
Now you know why we love TAILS! Great story – thanks to all the wonderful people that work there and the families that foster these animals when necessary and the loving families that adopt them.
Although I get angry when animals are mistreated, it’s nice to hear about all the people who care. Thanks to everyone at Tails and all they do in giving animals the second chance they deserve! Lucky for Noel that her second chance came from such a loving, caring, and understanding family.

What an absolutely perfect match! The pictures from when Angel was found break my heart, but it’s put back together seeing Noel with Olivia!
Fantastic story, and just one of many I’ve seen. All the thanks in the world to DeKalb TAILS for their years of great service to our community and for what they’ve meant for my own family. It just wouldn’t be the same here without them!
What a moving story! Read through it and the waterworks were soon to follow:) Everyone who played a role in this successful rescue and adoption should be fit to pop with pride in what they do!
WONDERFUL STORY,WONDERFUL END RESULTS.
Knew Angel’s story and was following her to se how she was doing. When Olivia adopted her everyone was so happy and touched. They’re such a great pair! I wish all dogs could find such happy homes!
This story touches me deeply. This dog was blessed with a wonderful family, and a little girl was blessed with a wonderful dog. It is amazing what an animal can give to you. Thank you for taking in this little animal and giving him the life he deserves. He will never stop giving back to you.

If only animals could talk and we could find out the people that throw them away. T.A.I.L.S. is a wonderful place and DeKalb is so fortunate to have this facility to care for animals in such a special way.
What a wonderful story. It was heart braking to see the pictures of poor little Noel when she was found, but what a joyful ending! She will live such a full and happy life now with the gentle care of her new family. She also is able to help out little Olivia cope with her own disease. Thank you T.A.I.L.S for being there.
Yes a dog can be such a close friend to a child, especially in this case where both the child and dog both share a common illnes, diabetes. they can help each other … the necessity of shots, monitoring their sugar levels, and most importantly a friend to hug!
thanks for sharing a story that reaches the heart of why we love our pets, and how they touch our lives!
It warms my heart that this dog who had so much trouble in her short life now has an amazing family and amazing kids to take care of her.
I had a Toy Poodle several years ago, he also had Diabetes, he lived for several years, we loved this dog for eight years. Tails cares for all their dogs. I have a dog from them that has turned to be a loving, kind dog, she helps me by walking with me daily, she is giving me a longer life. Tails is a wonderful place to adopt a dog, or cat and helps to prolong a animals life. I will always recommend TAILS for adoption.
I know that TAILS is one of the Best Shelters, I have Fostered Cats. and adopted 3 cats, and my dog that I have now, who is giving me a longer life with her mile walks daily and love from all 4 of my pets. I love them and will always recommend Adoption from them.

This is the perfect story to illustrate how far animals can bounce back from the brink. It’s so nice to see a perfect new beginning for a sweet little dog and a loving family that’s just perfect for it!
What a heart-warming story! This is win win for all involved. Thank you, TAILS, for making this happen.
I just read Angel’s story and it made my day. It seems Angel/Noel found an “angel” to save her. And now she is showing her appreciation by showering the family with love everyday.
A wonderful story; just the kind to renew everyone’s spirts.
They’re a match made in heaven! Or a match made at TAILS, anyway…
What a great story! I always say and will continue to, that if humans were more like animals, we would forgive easier, not discriminate others and just be a better species.
Wish all the rescues could end this way. Thank you TAILS for making this possible
A perfect match! It is so awesome when relationships like this one take place. Good luck to both Noel and Olivia and may they enjoy many years together.
What a great story!! This dog and family were meant to be together!
It simply amazes me how animals can forgive and trust after living through horrible situations. Noel looks like the happiest little dog in the world. The before and after photos are unbelievable. My very best to Olivia in managing her diabetes. I was diagnosed at age 15 and received a pancreas transplant 30 years later that effectively “cured” me. Its a tough disease but the way the Miller’s have banded together to take care of it is truly wonderful. Nothing can stop you Olivia with Noel by your side!
What a wonderful story of how animals and people belong together! I am a strong believer that animals give us back twice as much as we give them! How wonderful for Angel and Olivia to have each other!
This story emphasizes what people who work with shelters know, that caring for animals elevates the quality of life for human beings too. When it is possible to find a fit between an animal and a person or family that is this advantageous, it makes all the effort of daily care, fundraising, PR, worthwhile.
It’s fantastic that Noel got such a loving home. Every dog deserves to be loved and treated as a family member. I also thought that it was just adorable that Olivia and Noel talk about diabetes with each other. This story is very uplifting.
That is an amazing bond for a child to share with the her pet. Animals provide so much comfort and healing anyway, but this relationship is truly special as Olivia and Noel battle diabetes together.
Great story! Dogs are so much more than a pet!
Great story from a great organization, Tails. I recall this dog from the website. It’s really nice to see she has gone to a good home with understanding people.
It seems amazing that so much attention and money is given to a little dog. But when I think of what I would do for our own dogs I remember how much I love them and how much they give us.
What a moving story!! Everyone has been blessed. Thank you TAILS for all you do!
This should be a new “therapy dog” idea. What a great way to show children they can be brave with diabetes by partnering up with a diabetic pet! And kudos to Dekalb, IL for the legal action taken against Noel’s abusive original owner. I only wish there was a way to regulate that people who do such things can never be allowed to own a pet again.
My heart breaks when I read about animals left to die…
Not even one of God’s creatures deserves this kind of dishonorable death!
I’m so glad Noel and Olivia found each other, and that they will continue to love each other and support each other through their struggles.
Animals are meant to be loved and cared for, just as they love and care for their owners!
I know all about this little pup and her story – how inspiring to know just how far love can take us. She is truly a miracle
now that’s what EVERYONE in the world SHOULD read!
my shit-zu Tiffany would not leave the side of Jim as he took his last breaths, licking his whole face & head. shes not a licking dog! once he took his last breath she refused to enter his rm. for weeks, until his rm. became a computer & bird rm. but i had to carry her in to see it wasn’t his rm. anymore.
She also would not leave the side of abandoned “Gilbert the baby goose” with his deformed wing. & when Gilbert grow up, & my little fancy free range Chickens were in the yard, a hawk swooped down 2 grab 1, Gilbert stretched out his wings over the chickens & screamed at the hawk as loud as he could, & scared the hawk away, never to return. a terrified me got 2 witness the whole thing!
WE All CAN LEARN A LOT FROM THE ANIMAL WORLD IF WE TAKE THE TIME TO NOTICE!
Kris, they do give back to us so much, don’t they? And usually all they ask in return is some food, walks, and belly rubs.
Melissa, I agree whole-heartedly. No creature deserves to be treated dishonorably. It makes me incensed to hear of abuse and neglect.
Monica, it’s really incredible how animals strive to protect their families.
A wonderful story! We all know the theraputic value of animals, and Noel and Olivia are another perfect match. May they share many more years and adventures together.
What a heartwarming story! It is so sad to think Noel was neglected and left to die. I’m so glad the owner is being held responsible for such a terrible act. But, it is just wonderful that Noel was saved and is now with a family who appreciates her so much.
Wow. That’s an amazing story. I just can’t believe someone left that adorable little dog to the elements– I could just cry.
What a great story! And so relevant, all the way around.
This is what it is all about! This is why TAILS exists. The story says it all – there isn’t much left to say except another wonderful dog saved and perfectly matched with a little girl who needed her. It just doesn’t get any better!
What a wonderful story!!!! Noel looks so happy and healthy now! I’m glad the owner was punished-what a horrible thing to do!
It breaks my heart to think that someone would have abandoned Angel and treated her in such a dispicable way. Thank God Angel had a guardian Angel somewhere who is able to give her a safe and loving home. What a wonderful ending to Angel’s story.
TAILS seems to have a knack for pairing people up with just the right pet. I adopted a male cat that we didn’t know was a bit special needs until we got him home. But, I wouldn’t trade him for the world. He’s my therapy cat. Any time I’m down, he won’t leave my side: he follows me everywhere. I couldn’t have asked for a better friend than him.
I’m so grateful for all the work that TAILS does, and I can see from this story that Olivia and Noel feel the same.
Great story. Good to see the owner punished.
What a beautiful story, so glad they found each other!
I loved reading this wonderful story. The human animal bond is truly amazing. There is a reason Noel and the Millers found each. Animals do find us. Noel’s strength and perseverence reminds me of my beloved Chloe who also battled diabetes like a little trooper. So glad Noel’s story ended happily…she deserves a good home!
Besides the life-saving rescue of Angel, this shows how the phrase “it takes a community” means so much. Everyone who worked together on this rescue deserves all the pats on the back they get. From the realtor, to the humane investigator, the veternarians, county agencies, staff of TAILS and court system worked together to save a life and teach a lesson. It took a very special family to be part of this. Kudos to all!
I love happy endings. I have a happy ending thanks to TAILS! I also think that children that grow up with shelter dogs will grow up to be more responsible adults when it comes to our furry friends.
What a great story! That little dog had such potential to bring happiness and love, and I’m so glad the Millers saw their opportunity. I hope more of us will do the same for other needy animals, because they usually end up giving back more than we ever thought possible!
What a wonderful story. It just goes to show how many caring people there are in the world. Keep up the good work!
What a wonderful story with such a happy ending! I’m so glad Olivia and Angel/Noel found each other! I’m so glad she’s being taken care of so well and loved so much after what she went through. I’m also very glad that her cruel previous owner was punished for the horrible thing that she did.
Thank goodness for TAILS and the wonderful people there who have such compassion for animals. Olivia and Noel’s story is truly inspiring.
I was very touched by this story. What a horrible thing to do to a dog. I’m glad the owner was procecuted. I am also happy this dog found a loving home. There is a home out there for every dog I hope. We once wanted to adopt a dog so we went to look at a Sheltie that was in the newspaper. I wanted a traditional color of sheltie and this one was a blue merle. I wasn’t going to take him until I pet him and found all bones. I told my husband we had to take him or he would die. What a special dog he was and I was so glad I got him. Everyone should take a look at Shelters and pick out the next love of their lives.
What an inspiring story and a wonderful match made by TAILS.
What a great story! Thank you TAILS and the Miller family for such a happy ending.
Very good news that Angel and Olivia help maintain each other’s wellness.
This is one of the saddest yet happiest stories I’ve ever read. I can’t believe someone could abandon a living creature like that. I am so thankful (even more now, since I’ve read Noel’s story) for the good things that TAILS does every day. I’m glad that Noel got her happy ending, because she could have easily died. I hope everyone will be more aware of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment and call your local animal shelter if you see ANYTHING suspicious.
What a heartening story! Thank you for sharing it with us. It makes my heart happy to know of providential endings like this.
I’ll never understand how some people can be so cruel to animals. Thank goodness there are organizations like Tails and people like the Millers. Noel is a lucky dog.
What a heartwarming story. I remember seeing pictures of Angel when she was taken into rescue. Seeing her healthy and happy, well nourished and cared for is inspiring.
I often wonder what happens to some of these special needs pets at Tails who have been adopted and how they work out! I am so glad to hear this wonderful news. I had adopted a neglected senior dog that was brought into tails in which I thought wouldn’t live much longer. With much love and kindness, he is now thriving, healthy and happy! Just goes to show you how alittle love can go a long ways:)
This is a very inspiring story. Thanks for sharing it.
Keep up the good work TAILS
I remember this story and am so glad that Angel went to such a good home. TAILS is the best!
What a beautiful story!! I wish you both many years together!!! You are both adorable. God Bless, Deanne
What a awesome love and life story of the both of you!! Beautiful happy endings!
such a sweet story! Best wishes to Olivia and Angel (:
It is truly amazing to see the transformation brought about by caring people and a loving home. Another great example of how important animals are to people and visa versa.
This is a truely inspiring story. I also adopted a dog from Tails. He is a german shepherd/lab mix, and he’s the smartest dog ever! We were not looking for a big dog, but he won us over. I am greatful to Tails and I always recommend them to people who are looking for a pet.
Sweet story – pets can be such a blessing in so many lives.
What a remarkable story! Thanks to all of the people at Tails that provide such good care.
What a wonderful and happy ending. I adopted my cats from TAILS, all the people invoved in animal rescue are Angels.

awww. cute story!
We were the foster family entrusted to help Angel. We had never seen such a sick dog. But what a fighter. She fit right in with our other two dogs and within a week was in charge of the house. When she was adopted by Olivia, we cried – not with sadness but such joy that she would be living with a great family – a perfect fit. Special thanks to the humane investigater who went above and beyond to save Angel.
Angel was one of our foster dogs and a very special one at that. She required a lot of special attention which was not a problem because she was such a good dog, well behaved and well mannered. While it was a little difficult to give her up, we were delighted to have been a part of her life and were thrilled when she found her new home and family.
Just goes to show what love and determination can do. Tails foster parents and staff do great things.
Amazing.
This is a great example of the fine work being done by volunteers and foster families. Olivia and Noel are both blessed. We have a sweet,13 yr old, diabetic cat named Murphy.
How sad and sweet. There is a way to make things work out. Sometimes you just have to try harder. Good job to the REALTOR, the Humane Investigation Dept, Prairie View Animal Hospital, DeKalb Co Sherrif and Animal Control, TAILS and the Miller family.
Love it!! Soooo inspirational
That is an amazing story
This is a great story! What a wonderful pair! This is so inspiring and thanks to T.A.I.L.S for all their hard work!
Thank you TAILS (and Prairie View!) for nursing Noel back to health and finding her a forever home. What a heartwarming story!
Wonderful story!
This is a wonderful example of one of the many amazing things that happen at T.A.I.L.S. Thank you for posting this, and thank you for keeping us updated on Noel. It sounds like Noel has a huge heart for such a little dog.
Thanks to TAILS again for helping the dog and girl. I think magic happens at TAILS!
Olivia is a wonderful girl and deserves to have the love of that special dog.
All animals are entitled to have the love and respect of somebody special.
Give animals a chance!
What a wonderful story, they were meant to be together to help each other along the way.
Dekalb is very privileged to have a place like T.a.i.l.s.The staff are excellent dedicated people.
What a touching story! The staff and volunteers at TAILS are truly wonderful to the animals.
Thanks to the staff and volunteers at TAILS there are many wonderful stories like Angel’s. An amazing story and an amazing place.
What a wonderful story! I’ve always believed that the pet adopts the person and this sounds like the fit was just right.
What a beautiful story! Great job T.A.I.L.S!
This is great! I adopted an animal from Tails and they are wonderful, and so is my dog!
Kudos to Tails and all the awesome people that love animals and adopt shelter dogs. Nice job everyone!
What a miracle! This is amazing! Way to go Tails!
What a wonderful story – Glad to see Angel went to a family that really understands what her needs are. Congratulations to TAILS and all that participated in this rescue. I adopted a wonderful 8 year old ‘puppy’ from TAILS 1.5 yrs ago – wonderful organization.
Great story! Awesome work TAILS and all of the volunteers. Keep it up!
more proof that TAILS helps more than our four legged friends.
It’s inspiring to see such positive results from dedicated volunteers working toward a common goal. TAILS has helped make TWO lives much better with just this one instance, and they are involved with similar instances every day! If only more people worked that way.
Thanks for the great story!
Fantastic story
What a heart warming story and how wonderful that Noel and Olivia found each other. We have adopted a cat and a dog from TAILS and thank all the volunteers for their wonderful, loving work.
TAILS is a great organization. Always great to see that a dog has found their special family.
What a wonderful story. So happy that Noel found her forever family and that Olivia got such a special dog. Some things are just meant to be!

You can beat this…
Glad Angel found a caring home. Nice story!
So touching that Olivia has taken part in caring for her dear pet as she is cared for by those who love her.
Wonderful story! TAILS and the Millers created a true happy ending for a brave little dog and an equally brave little girl. Angels are watching over you both!
Thanks to Tails and the wonderful foster family who was able to make this happen for such a loving little girl!
Go Tails! What a perfect match! I love hearing these stories, they remind me why life is so awesome.
I know the foster family and would get updates every so often. I was amazed at how well angel did and how the story ended so perfectly.
I’m so glad that this dog found a family that loves her! I’m glad too that the previous owner was fined for animal abuse!!! More importantly it was a match made in heaven for Olivia. And even though we now know her as ‘Noel’ this dog is a true Angel!!!
What a wonderful and inspiring story!! TAILS is such a great organization and I hope that this inspires people to donate to them or related organizations.
What an inspiring story!! TAILS is such a great organization and I hope that this inspires people to donate to them or related organizations.
I had the pleasure of photographing Olivia and Noel and it was a true delight. Olivia takes such good care of Noel and the bond they share is heart-warming. Noel is so lucky to have such a wonderful home (and heart) to share the rest of her life with. Thank you TAILS, Prairie View and the foster family for your part in bringing these little “Angels” together.
What a lucky little dog to have such great family to love and be loved in return.
What a great ending to Angel’s sad story.
Heartwarming Story. I believe in Angels.
Truly inspirational story. It does your heart good to see stories like this one.
At least they both help each other. I am a vollonteer at tails and there are alot of aboandon animals in there.I have at least 4 stray cats living out side(they were truly dumped and left here). I hope that they(girl and dog) are both healthy and well.It was such a loving story and I hope and wish every animal could have such a loving home.
What a wonderful, caring story,, I also have diabetes, so i know how much care you have to take,, it was meant to be, for Olivia and Noel to find each other,,we also have adopted a dog from Tail,, they are wonderful caring people,,
I have already rescued a couple of dogs but this story makes me want to rescue some more and add to my happy herd!
I’m glad the former owner was actually charged in this case. This just goes to prove that there is an animal out there for everyone and your heart will led you to them.
she looks so happy now!
This is such a heart touching story. Tails does a great thing for animals and the people who adopts those pets. This is just another story that shows how tails helps so many people and animals find love and hope
It’s a great thing to have someone to talk to and share something such as diabetes. Olivia and Noel are both so lucky and I wish them the best!
What a great story!
A happy ending to a story with a difficult beginning… Thank you to everyone who helped Angel/Noel to a new life.
What a touching story, another lucky dog to find it’s forever home with a family that understands first hand what her little body needs. Best wishes.
This story touches my heart. God Bless TAILS, Angel, and the Miller Family.
love this story—wish all the animals could have this kind of ending
I stumbled onto your blog and read a few post. I like your style of writing.
Such a great story. I am so glad to see that the previous owner was charged and that Tails was able to step in and rescue this little girl. It’s wonderful to see that there are families out there willing to take on a “special needs” pet..and they have the perfect perspective to really understand her and love her for who she is! Sounds like a match made in heaven!!
It’s great to hear a story with such a positive outcome. Best of luck to Olivia and Noel; take care of each other.
This is a heartwarming story with a great outcome.
Wish there were more “olivia” people out there to adopt special needs animals. Glad to hear about a happy ending.
We love to hear about these heart warming stories! Best of luck to the both of you!
What an awesome story. I once had a cat that had diabetes and there was nothing I wouldn’t do for him.
I love hearing sweet stories about these pets getting forever homes.
Great story! I’m glad ‘Angel’ found her own angels to help her recover.
I adopted a wonderful 3 1/2 year old toy poodle/shiz mix that Tails was nice enough to bring in from a hord from Ohio last year. He did not know how to walk up and down stairs and was very afraid of people. Now he can do stairs, enjoys people, does tricks, happily runs around in his big yard with his “sister” and he has fit right in our family, including with the poodle/chin that we already had. Thanks TAILS! We can’t imagine our life without our little Toby!
A great story that never ceases to inspire.
That is so awesome! I’m glad that they found each other!

This is such a wonderful story!
Great article!!!
What a beautiful story. As someone who has had the priviledge of owning a rescue dog, I am so happpy to see what this can do for owner and pet.
Sweet little dog.
Thanks to all of those who work at TAILS.
Angel’s story continues to remind me of why I became involved with and continue to support TAILS Humane Society. Thanks to all the wonderful staff, volunteers and ADOPTERS who make it possible for TAILS to be the place “where good things happen everyday!”
Fantastic story. Inpsired us to donate to Guardian Angels. Special needs rescue dogs are the best…
Fantastic story. Inspired us to donate to Guardian Angels. Special needs rescue dogs are the best…
This is a wonderful example of the value of TAILS to the greater DeKalb community. Great story.
Animals add so much to our lives; so wonderful that they share things with us too. Kudos to TAILS for all the great work they do.
This is an amazing story! Will share on Facebook. I love TAILS!
Go Tails! We have a rescue dog from Tails as well, and she is such a joy!
What a great story! TAILS is a wonderful resource for this community!
Great story. We always get our dogs from shelters and they make the most wonderful pets. Over a span of 28 years, we’ve had 3 wonderful dogs that we adopted from shelters and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
God gives gifts in many different forms and this is truly a great one…for both Olivia and Angel.
This story is a testimate to the wonderful things that Tails does for our community. What an inspiring story of hope and determination! I’m glad Angel/Noel found her true home.
What a sweet story! Noel reminds me of my little chihuahua, Dora, who also rules the roost. It sickens me that anyone could ever give up on such a sweet dog. Good work Tails and the Millers!
This story made me cry. Olivia and Noel are so lucky to have found each other. What a great caring family they have.
Brought tears to my eyes. We have two rescue dogs from TAILS. Love them both dearly!
This is a beautiful story about people who truly love animals.
The Miller family are an inspiration to all of us in taking in this special needs animal; and without Tails, Angel and Olivia would not have found each other. What a great story.
What a wonderful story!
Angel’s is an incredibly inspiring story, with a very happy ending – all because an observant private citizen took the time to call TAILS’ Humane Investigation Department about a little dog she had no responsibility for. TAILS took it from there. Go Angel and Noel!
I remember reading this story & it illustrates a complete commitment of the TAILS organization…
What a great story and a brave little girl. This sounds like a perfect match!
Unbelieveable that anyone could mistreat such a sweet dog. Look at the awesome friendship that came from this unlikely set of events, however. What a great story, with a happy ending. Stories such as this one demonstrate what the hard work and dedication of TAILS is about! May the two of you have a long and happy friendship and many adventures together!
)
These heart warming, wholesome and inspiring tales, are like reality checks! Olivia and Noel’s tale, hopefully, reminds the rest of us ‘busy’ people that there is more to life than just working, chasing materialism, and staying on top of things!!
What a wonderful adoption success story. Each life has a purpose.
An inspirational story…..
What a sweet story . . . gotta love a happy ending!
What a wonderfully inspirational story! Olivia and Angel were meant to be together.
Brilliant story and one of many that should be told about Tails. We adopted three years ago and Riely has been the love of our life ever since. It’s hard to imagine life before she came along.
An inspiring story of hope and love.
Loved this story! Thanks for sharing it.
Such a great story!! Way to go TAILS!
Thank goodness for adoptees that give their time, attention and love to animals in need like Angel!
What an inspiring, amazing story! I volunteer with Fancy Cats Rescue Team (http://www.fancycats.org) and these are the stories that keep us going. Thanks to all who rescue animals and to all who adopt rescued animals. You all deserve big hugs!
Tails is a wonderful organization. We adopted a dog from them a few years ago and we have been so happy with her. Thank you Tails for all the lives you save!!!
Great job TAILS! These two are a match made in heaven!
What a touching story! TAILS is such an amazing organization!
It is always great to hear such wonderful success stories.
Olivia and Noel truly make great companions for each other.
What an amazing story! I’m proud to live in DeKalb and be a part of TAILS!! My grandfather, Uncle, and brother all have passed away due to juvenile diabetes, so this story “hits me hard”.
What a wonderful story. Thanks Tails!:)
Stories like this keep us giving our time to help organizations like TAILS.
What a great story, inspiring. Thanks TAILS and Prairie View!
Diabetes is not an easy disease for an adult, let alone a child. It is a greatly uplifting story to hear that this young girl was given an amzing tool to help cope with her illness and this dog was given an incredible friend.
Great job! Thanks to TAIL’s and Prarieview!
Great inspirational story!!
A wonderful and inspiring story!!
This story is amazing. Thank God the people found that poor dog before it was too late. I too adopted a puppy from a shelter, and she’s going on her 11th year with me. Thank you and all the other shelters for the love and care you provide!
What a heart warming story.
What a delightful story with such a happy ending. You wouldn’t even know it’s the same dog in the before/after pictures!
A great story!
Tails is a great orginization. They came and spoke to our 4-H club just this week. DeKalb County is a better place because of them.
A very heartwarming story!
What an inspiring story and TAILS is such a wonderful organization! Rescuing a dog has been a truly rewarding experience in my own family’s life! We would never hesitate to do it again! Thank you to all of the great people who work at TAILS!
I love this story
What an amazing story! Thank you for sharing! How perfect that Olivia and Noel have each other. How inspirational for Olivia to have such a sweet pet. Thank you Tails!
This is such an amazing story, I love my dogs and don’t know what I would do without them in my life.
This is such a great story. Tails you do great work, keep it up.
What a fantastic story! They were just meant to be together.
What a wonderful story! Thanks for sharing and reminding others how important it is to find a forever home for all of these animals.
Very inspiring story. Shows how animals can be of great comfort to people.
I am so glad Angel/Noel found her perfect “forever home.”
Thank goodness for miracles like this….and thanks to all at TAILS for continuing to make them happen.
Such a great story!! Nice job, Tails
Tails does a wonderful job rescuing animals.
What a perfect match for a girl who so desparately wanted a dog!
This is an amazing story. Thank you so much TAILS for helping these innocent angels!!!!
What a beautiful story! I truly believe things happen for a reason and the Miller’s and Noel were made for each other! God Bless Tails and the Miller’s.
This story shows that all animals need protection and they can give joy and insperation to humans.
What an amazing story. Very moving!
I remember this story from the newsletter and how disturbing it was to see an animal treated that way. I will never understand how anyone could be so cruel. It’s wonderful to see the progress she has made and the happiness she and her owners have found in each other.
What a happy ending to a sad beginning. For this little girl and this little dog to have been placed together is one part fate and two parts the excellent skills of the great staff at TAILS for making adoption matches.
I truly believe that animals are a healing and teaching entity that God put here on earth. The story is a great one. Thanks to the many who rescue and adopt the abandoned animals. Everyone keep up the good work.
Angel and Noel’s story is such a great example of the love between human and dog and the help they can be to each other!
Thanks to Tails for rescuing this adorable little dog. It seems like her and Olivia are great for each other.
if only people had the courage and spirit of angel. you go, girl!
What a heart warming story!
what a nice story!
Such a beautiful story, and a true testament to the amazing work that TAILS does everyday!
Before I retired four years ago, I was the Department Secretary for the Elmhurst Hospital Diabetes Learning Center and many of the patients were young children. It is very heartbreaking to see little ones with such a challenging disorder and also to see how relentless both the child and the parents must be to keep the blood sugar levels within proper range. And what a challenge to help a little dog who cannot tell you how she is feeling. Olivia is indeed fortunate to have Noel as a friend – my hat is off to TAILS for saving and caring for the little dog and for finding such an excellent home for her. It sounds as if Olivia is very atuned to Noel’s needs which will help her recognize her own!
Noel is truly an angel – and so are the people who rescued and cared for her. It is wonderful that she has found the perfect home.
What a great story! Sounds like TAILS is a great place to adopt from, as they really get to know who they are giving their animals to. Olivia truly deserves kudos! She is a brave little girl and a wonderful caregiver, companion and friend to Noel.
Way to go!!!
This reminds me of the movie “Pay It Forward”. How wonderful!
Angel IS an angel; so are the folks who’ve given her a new life. hooray for all of you!
What a wonderful story!
What a wonderful story! Olivia and Noel are lucky to have found each other. Everyone should get their pets from a shelter!
Congrats to TAILS for rescuing “Angel” and for finding an excellent home for her. It sounds as if Olivia is well attuned to Noel’s needs which will help her to recognize her own. Diabetes is a devastating disorder, especially for young children.
I am so grateful that Oliva and Noel found each other.
What wonderful companions they are for one another.
I will never understand how someone who mistreats or
neglects a dog can walk away with merely a slap on
the hand. If they can do this to a helpless dog they
can do it to a person too. Thank goodness for those
with huge hearts like the Miller’s.
What a wonderful story. There is no such thing as a coincidence….it was meant to be for Noel to be a part of the Miller family. They needed each other!
another successful rescue! glad to know the person responsible was fined for animal cruelty.
What a heart-warming story!
We all benefit from having pets around….and pets wtih specia needs are just that: special!
You are a winner, Olivia. Thank you for being so good to and for Angel!
Amazing story! Well done Olivia, you brave girl and your little buddy Noel too!
How wonderful for the both of them. It seems they were destined to be united. So very glad that the owner was held accountable and that some law enforcement agencies really go that extra mile and will be the human mouth piece for these babies! Kudos to them and also the humans that love all these little ones and stand in the gap! What a wonderful ending to such a horrific story….
A story of hope and love…what could be better! thank you
This touching story brought tears to my eyes. Gotta love a happy ending.
A big thank you to Tails and other shelters for doing such a fine job matching rescued animals with their new human companions. My heart goes out to Angel and Noel.
What a “sweet” story! Keep up the great work!
What a very touching story. Dogs are such wonderful companions and what a wonderful relationship the two have formed.
What an amazing story and a beautiful outcome. Thank you for sharing.
What an awesome story! Can’t beleive it’s the same dog in all those pictures!
It breaks my heart when I hear about harm being done to animals! I am so glad to see such a happy story about this dog being rescued and having such a happy, loving family.
This is a great story. I’m glad that TAILS could rescue a dog that helps a youngster cope and learn about her own health. Together, they make a great team. I’m proud to have an agency like TAILS in my community.
My wife has been with TAILS from the beginning and I know these are the types of rescues that have made it all worthwhile.
This is a very touching story, proving once again what an amazing effect an animal can have on someone’s life! What a lucky pooch!
It is happy endings like this that make me keep wanting to help the animals who have no voice, but are so much a part of our lives. I couldn’t imagine being without our dogs and cats.
What a wonderful story. Makes me want to go and adopt another dog. Maybe some day…
You two were very lucky to have found each other. Wishing you both continued health and happiness together for years to come.
We have rescued a dog and know what it’s like to have the right fit. Olivia and Angel are meant to be together just like our dog and us. Thanks for the inspirational story.
What a wonderful and inspiring story. Thank God for all the caring people who love animals.
It’s stories like this that confirm my belief in the value of spending time, energy and money helping animals who are in need of being rescued. Thank you for the inspiring story.
Such a sweet story! It’s refreshing to know that TAILS is here to bring happiness and help to others.
What a great story …it’s nice to have so many compansionate people who brought these two together. Beyond lucky- really meant to be .
Truly an inspiring story! It’s amazing how some things are “just meant to be.” And if you look really close, there’s usually an Angel nearby!
wow what a great story! its amazing how people, who cause so many problems like in the sad beginning of this story, can turn things around too; giving this such a happy ending
P.S. that little dog is so adoreable. i can’t believe people can be so terrible to think such treatment of animals like that is ok.
What a match made in Heaven. Obviously, Olivia and Noel were meant for each other.
This is so wonderful!
What a wonderful story! It is heartwarming to know there are great people and events going on all around us. Let’s continue to share the beauty of our community!
TAILS has developed so many outreach programs in our community. They are so much more than “just” an animal shelter. I am glad that they were there to help Angel.
Awesome story!
What a great story….except for one thing, Angel’s original owner should have gotten 18 months of prison, not probation.
I am thankful to your family for sharing your love with Angel and to all the volunteers and staff at Tails for making it happen.
Rescue dogs are the best, and this is an amazing story. I hope Angel has a long, healthy life now.
My beloved Sweety came from TAILS and was rescued from a hoarding. When an animal has the love and devotion of a forever home and the treatment it needs to heal, it becomes a huge part of our life. This little dog is being helped and helping Olivia with her diabetes. It’s a wonderful story.
What a heartwarming story. Olivia and Noel are so lucky to have found each other to love and care for.
Great rescue and good save, thanks to the realtor.
Good thing Prairie View Animal Hospital didn’t give up
on that puppy so she could find a good home with Olivia
where she is understood and will be well cared for.
Thanks to Tails too for finding the perfect home for her.
It is always refreshing to see people recognize our similarities to all animals. Great story.
As u can tell TAILS is a place where good and great things happen and does happen because of all the loving and caring people work and go to to find their forever friends.
Wonderful story and TAILS is a wonderful organization. We are lucky to have them in the community.
Heart warming story. Diabetes is such a difficult disease. It is amazing how this little girl has such a connection with this dog, and how this family has taken on such a huge responsibility. It’s families like this that really make a differnce in the world!
These are the stories that make the emotional job of working at a shelter worth every bit of it.
I was so moved by Angel’s story. TAILS was able to help a dog and a little girl. Just one of the many amazing stories. My husband and I adopted from TAILS and our new addition has changed both of our lives. Thank you TAILS!
I loved this story!
What an amazing transformation to see! I’m glad Olivia and Noel found eachother!
Simply wonderful!
A great program that we can’t live without!
What a wonderful story. These two were meant to be together.
What a story of love and concern. Well done!
What a beautiful story ,it just brings tears to your eyes.
I love this story! One of the most touching things I have ever read…. beautiful.
It sounds like these two were made for each other! God is amazing, isn’t he?
What a great story! It brought tears to my eyes. Hopefully it will inspire more people to open their hearts and homes to animals in need. I have one adopted dog and wish I could take home every one of them, cats too! Best of luck to both Olivia and Noel.
Inspiring story about love & friendship!
TAILS is wonderful!
That story brough tears to my eyes, as it reminded me of my beautiful Lab, Chance, that also had diabetes, he lived until the age of 9. He died 6 years ago, and I still mess him. I’m so happy that Angel has a good home.
What a great story! My first dog was rescued from a shelter when I was young and she was the best dog I ever knew. When I have my own yard, I will adopt another dog to join the family.
what an amazing story. True love!
A dog and child that was meant to be. Tails does great work with their animals. My daughter loves dogs.
Great Story!
“Be the person your dog thinks you are!”
What a sweet story. I’m glad that there are people out there who are willing to do the right thing and help a cute little animal like that!
Every dog and child should be so lucky to find each other.
What a great story.
What a happy outcome.
What a story. TAILS has managed to again create a little ‘miracle’, well done each and every one of you. I am writing from Australia – so their good deeds go a long way from their base. Angel is a very lucky pooch – bet her owners wouldn’t swap here for her weight in gold.
Perfect reason to adopt! You can find a pet who is a perfect match!
Keep up the good work TAILS!
This is just an amazing story…TAILS always does such wonderful things for all animals, they DESERVE to win!
Noel is a very lucky puppy. Most people don’t want to have anything to do with a special needs animal. The Millers are a VERY special family to have accepted Noel. Olivia is also a very special little girl to take such good care of Noel. Society needs more people like The Millers.
Angel has found her forever home thanks to TAILS and her new family. She so deserves it!
TAILS rocks and Angel is an awesome dog for hanging in there when things got tough.
Such a wonderful story! I’m so glad they were able to find each other.

Angel is so lucky to have found her forever home, and her family is lucky to get sucha great dog. Go TAILS, and great job Angel for hanging in there.
This is a great story. My cousin Bear Down J was juvenile diabetic and found huge support from his dog Wally who he received from TAILS. The dogs he had did indeed help him thru his bad times and were always part of the good ones. Keep up the good work TAILS!
What a great story,you should win .
ANGEL—– GO DOG GO!
What an inspiring story! Made my day!
Every shelter animal has the potential to make someone as happy as Angel has.
Another great story of the awesome work done at TAILS!! Two lifelong friends and a very lucky litte pup!!
As a person with diabetes, I can relate to Olivia’s and Angel’s situation. They are being supportive of each other and that makes things easier for both of them. TAILS should be called “angellic” as they were the conduit for this to be possible. Keep up the great work!!!
Angels for an Angel!
